Cancer diagnoses can have an intense impact on patients and families. With advancements in cancer treatment, asymptomatic patients often receive unexpected diagnoses via routine imaging/check ups. When cancer becomes the focus, oftentimes patients’ other chronic comorbidities are left unaddressed. This is where quality of life comes into play; a real and serious impact of COVID-19 that too few are discussing. Here, we'll discuss the role of the pharmacist as 'cement,' preventing patients from slipping through the cracks of the healthcare system by focusing on cancer’s collateral damage—chronic disease management and non-cancer-related acute concerns.
